Our first house was a lovely one story. It was a cozy little thing full of love and good memories. Cecil and I loved this house so much; we were both sad when we sold it. Not going to lie, I balled like a little baby. The commute to our job though was terrible, and we had no other choice but to sell it.
Before you check out these photos, keep in my they were taken with a B.C. pre-historic iPhone so the quality will not be the best.
THE FRONT
Simple yet lovely, that’s how I would describe the front of our first house. I still remember the day we worked on those two little flower beds. Cecil hurt his back that weekend cleaning the garage; not doing anything in particular. It was more of an “I am getting old, and if I twist a certain way it’s going to hurt” kind of thing. Ha. You know when you hit a certain age, if you get out of bed too fast, you pull something? Well, that’s what happened to Cecil, except he just got up too quickly from bending over. When I arrived home that Friday, I found him sitting on a chair, almost unable to move, with a look that said I am in a lot of pain. Fortunately, it wasn’t anything significant, and within a few days, he was almost back to normal.
Funny thing was, we had everything ready to go that weekend, and I ended up working in the garden by myself and Cecil watching me from a chair nearby. He felt terrible. In the end, the flower beds turned out great.

We set the stones down for the little patio area. We were eventually going to put a cute little bench out there but never got around to it. Is it obvious I love plants? Maybe I got it from my Mama Victoria who loves to garden. She even talks to her plants; it is the cutest thing ever. Confession: I may have killed a plant or two since I don’t have the greenest of thumbs.

The front door also got a paint job. Definitely popped more than the sad brown.

THE ENTRY
The entryway was small but functional and open. From it, you could see all the main living areas, which we loved. The house had a split-open concept, which meant all the living areas were open and separated the master from the other bedrooms. The cute yellow bin was one of my very first “big” DIY projects. I was terrified of painting a brand new piece of furniture because I didn’t want to ruin it. Painting it was the best thing I could have done for that thing. Check it out here.
To make that lovely yellow bin pop, I went with a dark grey accent wall.

LIVING ROOM
A view from the entry to the living room. The natural light in this house was amazing. The high ceilings and crown molding were such a special touch, hard to get in newer homes these days.
First order of business was painting because when we moved in, the walls were brown. I picked colors that I thought would go well with the house and my taste; it did take me a few tries to get the right color though. Trust me; I have plenty of Home Depot paint samples to prove it. We made so many trips to Home Depot that first month in the house, we probably paid their light bill. That’s typically how it goes when you move into your first house.

Charlie modeling on the rug. The bird accent pillow was my first sewing project and in my opinion, it turned out decent. I still have it and it hasn’t fallen apart so I call that a win.

My decor style is simple, clean, calm, and cozy. My home is my zen and I treasure it tremendously. It is where my little family rests, eats, makes memories and where we gather, so why not make it the best place to re-energize.
Aqua blue is my favorite color and the reason why it almost everywhere in the house.

Along with a lot of other furniture, the entertainment center also got refinished because it was originally an expresso color. Because I like bright and simple colors, I went with an off-white color that goes well with just about everything in my house.

The view from the kitchen and back door to the entryway and dining room. The little hallway entry to the left led to two more bedrooms and a bathroom. One was the guest bedroom, and the other was a crafting/college furniture room. Ha!

THE FORMAL DINING ROOM
I feel so fancy saying that. Here is the dining table that almost always never got used. Haha! It got used a few times a year but not much. Cecil and I ate dinner in the breakfast area. We did use it when our families came to visit so I guess we did use it more than a few times.

THE KITCHEN
Our galley way kitchen was a dream, and I loved cooking delicious meals in it. I cooked almost every nights because I was excited to have a big kitchen, finally. Since then, cooking every night has gone out the window because I learned to meal prep.
The cabinets were built from scratch by a local carpenter who also stained them. They were a work of art.

The mason jar decor to the left of the photo was a gift from a sweet friend who loves crafts as much as I do. The message board on the right, I made.

CRAFT CLOSET
In one of the bedrooms where we put our old college couches (which we kept until we found someone who needed them), I used the closet as a small office and to keep all my crafts. I don’t like clutter, so this was my way of hiding all the little stuff I wasn’t sure where to put. We were broke college graduates who were establishing ourselves in our career and didn’t have a lot of money to spend on furniture. The desk in the middle, we built using a piece of wood and steel pipes. It was functional and cheap to make.

GUEST BEDROOM
The guest bedroom welcomed many guests. We loved having a place to welcome family and friends to stay.

MASTER BEDROOM
Our master bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. Decor-wise, it wasn’t completely finished. A lot of our frames were still on the floor. (See photo below).

TWO CAR GARAGE
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t like clutter. Some sort of organization is a requirement in my life. I can’t really function unless things have their space. Putting things back where they were originally assigned may be a different story. LOL!

In this small but sweet home, we created amazing memories that we carry in our hearts. We worked on so many projects but never got pictures. Wish I could show you all. Charlie still misses the backyard and we do too.
